Non Surgical Liposuction

Non-surgical liposuction methods, for facelifts, cellulite reduction and body contouring, have advanced rapidly over the past ten years. This has enabled doctors to offer a wide range of non-surgical liposuction methods to their patients. Following are the most popular non-surgical liposuction methods currently available.

All of these methods offer the same final end result. Fat in your body is dissolved into a liquid state, which is absorbed into the patient’s system. The fatty liquid is then eliminated from the patient’s body with other waste products through stool and urine.

Injection Liposuction Methods

You’ve probably heard ads about injections that dissolve fat and you have several questions about this procedure. Is it safe? Does it work?

Although ingredients vary depending on which treatment facility you use, the main ingredient for non surgical liposuction injections is phosphatidycoline or PCDC. These injections can be used as a follow-up to regular liposuction, where it has left uneven pockets of fat, and as a stand-alone treatment. All non surgical liposuction is meant to contour small areas of the body.

It does take several shots, it does work, and it has a short recovery time. However, there are some risks to this procedure that you need to keep in mind.

Mesotherapy

The use of Mesotherapy for non-surgical facelifts is more popular in South America and Europe than it is in the United States. Like all non-surgical liposuction methods, it is efficient at reducing cellulite. Mesotherapy uses injections of amino acids, chemicals, and holistic complexes to dissolve fatty tissue. The needles used in mesotherapy are small, which has the effect of reducing pain involved in the procedure. A majority of patients see results after one session.

Lipodissolve™
Lipodissolve™ is the latest advance in non-surgical liposuction alternatives. Although similar to mesotherapy, using Lipodissolve™ means the injection of enzymes and other chemicals into areas where you want to get rid of fat.

Lipodissolve™ enjoys greater usage in the United States than mesotherapy, because the use of holistic medicine has never really caught on in mainstream medicine. Lipodissolve™ has also become the most popular non-surgical liposuction method in the US, because it offers a faster recuperation time and because it’s chemical mix can be tailored to fit the patient and the area that’s being targeted. Lipodissolve™ works well on the chin and neck, but it can be used on any part of your body.

Injection liposuction methods are also marketed as LipoZap and LipoMelt.

Facts about non-surgical liposuction injection methods:

On average you need 4 treatments.
The looser the fat is, the better the results.

There are risks of:

Disfigurement
Bloating
severe cramping
dehydration.
Itching
Redness
Bruising

Other side effects may include:

Severe swelling of the treated areas
Severe Allergic reactions that lead to hospitalization
Destruction not only of fat cells, but also the surrounding tissue and skin, which leads to large open sores forming on your skin.

The FDA has not approved non surgical liposuction injections:

"It is not FDA approved, in fact there are no FDA approved drugs with an approved indication to dissolve fat. FDA cannot assure the safety and efficacy of these types of drugs. Consumers need to know that this is a buyer beware situation. These are unapproved drugs for unapproved uses and we can't guarantee consumers' safety."
Sandy Walsh
FDA Spokesperson

In Kansas, the injection method using PCDC is restricted to physicians who are using it as part of an ongoing clinical trial.

You should never have non surgical liposuction injects performed at a spa. A dermatologist or better still, a plastic surgeon should perform these procedures.

When looking for a doctor, get plenty of patient referrals. Find out about their training. How aggressive or how safe their techniques are and if you can, where they get their supplies.

Lipotherapy and Liposuction are not meant to be used for weight loss. These are body contouring methods only.

The average cost of injection non surgical liposuction is $250. With an average of 4 sessions, a complete treatment will cost roughly $1,000. Prices will be almost double this in areas where there are less practitioners.

Laser Liposuction Methods

Lipotherme Laser Lipolysis or Lipotherapy

This technique is FDA approved. Small incisions are made in the area being treated. The doctor then proceeds to use the laser under your skin to target areas of fat. The doctor can see the red, glowing tip of the laser, so this procedure can be a little more targeted. This procedure is performed under local anesthetic.

Laser lipotherapy is marketed as SmartLipo and Cool Touch Lipo.

The recovery time for this is half a day to two days. There is a burning sensation when the therapy is complete and the local anesthetic has worn off.

Ultra Sound Liposuction Methods

VelaShape™
VelaShape™ uses combined energies known as elos™ to target and heat fatty tissues rather precisely within its treatment area, and is also known as Circumference Reduction. In addition, the vacuum and tissue manipulation evens out the skin to reveal a smoother, tighter figure. VelaShape™ is used primarily for larger areas, such as thighs and buttocks. The two applicators (VSmooth & VContour) on the VelaShape™ device are designed for large and small body areas. Some doctors say that they use VelaShape for cellulite reduction only.

UltraShape
UltraShape is an ultrasound treatment and is in use in Europe, Canada and Mexico. But it is still in clinical trials in the US. Trial participants are reporting a 50/50 satisfaction ratio. Until we have more information on this procedure, we cannot recommend it’s use.

UltraShape (ultra-sound) and SmartLipo (laser) therapies can’t be used on the same areas, so be careful on what procedures you plan on using.

VelaShape and UltraShape can be combined and are complimentary treatments.

Liposonix
Liposonix is also currently in trials. But it seems like this procedure is promising. Liposonix has been bought by Medicis, the same company that owns Restylane and Perlane fillers.

Radio Frequency Body Contouring Methods

Other body contouring methods, such as Thermage or Titan do not affect your body’s fat layer and therefore cannot be included in the liposuction section; they work to tighten your existing collagen and the increase the body’s collagen production.

For plastic surgeons, the ability to offer patients non-surgical liposuction, increases safely and decreases pain and recovery time. This is to everyone’s benefit and has made non-surgical liposuction face-lift and body contouring methods a popular, as well as an effective solution.

Our recommendation is that no matter what non surgical liposuction method you use, that you first find a qualified physician, with a successful track record, and discuss your needs with them.
